Last Saturday, Chula Vista Toastmasters proudly cheered on our very own Aaron Freedman as he competed in the Southern Division District 5 Table Topics Contest. The event took place at the Chula Vista Library in downtown Chula Vista, drawing in Toastmasters from across the region.
Aaron had the honor and challenge of being the first speaker of the evening. He was asked a thoughtful question:
"Why do you think it is challenging to come up with table topic questions?"
Aaron delivered a strong and insightful response, drawing from his experience in our club. He explained that each week, our meetings revolve around a specific theme, and when you are the Table Topics Master, it’s your job to craft questions that tie into that theme. For example, if the theme is “Aliens and Space,” your questions need to explore those concepts.
To engage the audience, Aaron cleverly asked, “How many of you know about aliens and space?” The question got a few laughs and even prompted some hands to go up. Aaron displayed an excellent example of audience participation. His delivery was well-rounded, with expressive hand gestures, vocal variety, and a warm, confident smile throughout.
Aaron's performance earned him second place, a fantastic achievement in a tough field of competitors.
Supporting Aaron from the audience were fellow Chula Vista Toastmasters David Carroll, Roberto Herrera, and Ellen Rosas, who showed up to cheer him on and represent the club spirit.
Adding to the celebration, Chula Vista Toastmasters was awarded a ribbon for having all seven club officers trained which is an important milestone that demonstrates our commitment to our excellence and growth.
All in all, it was a fantastic evening for the club.
We are incredibly proud of Aaron and grateful for the support of our members!
